Biography

      Statement

I am fascinated by transparent and reflective surfaces such as glass and metal. I enjoy exploring how these materials appear and interact with their surroundings. To reveal how light and shade effect the composition and the interrelation between the objects is captivating. My choice of subject matter is everyday food objects which I paint using oils. I work referencing from photographs but my paintings are original and not a direct interpretation of the photograph. I heighten aspects of the painting so that objects have clarity; I am passionate about showing the precision and colour of the composition. I believe my paintings are a ‘hyper-reality’ in other words a reality that has been captured in an instant by a camera lens that holds no emotion. My paintings emulate the photographic source yet are far more personal as each object has been painted meticulously with a great deal of human passion.
